Katherine Dexter is a Licensed Midwife (LM) and Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and feels honored to serve childbearing families in the Seattle area. She has supported hundreds of families through pregnancy and birth, helping them to welcome their babies at home, in birth centers, and in hospitals.
She came to midwifery through her awe at the power, love, and resilience that is unmistakable in the birth process, and through her commitment to humanized health care and social justice. Though her aunt gave birth at home in Washington with the help of a midwife, Katherine was first personally exposed to midwifery abroad, during a community health course in Northeast Brazil. Since, she has obtained a BA in Anthropology from the University of Washington, worked as a bilingual Spanish-English childbirth educator, lactation educator, and doula in a community birth center in the Bronx, NY, and graduated from Bastyr University’s three-year Master’s of Science in Midwifery program.
Before opening Tidelands Midwifery, she trained and worked with nurse-midwives and licensed midwives in San Francisco, Kirkland, Bellingham, and Seattle. She is an active member of the Midwives’ Association of Washington State (MAWS) and the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives (NACPM).
In her free time, Katherine enjoys creating in the kitchen, finding solitude and beauty in nature, swimming, running, meditation, reading, volunteering, and spending quality time with her partner, family, and friends.
